Parking the car in Allemond to start the day.
Got my booties on, my leggings on, AW YEAH.
Praise for superfan Didi Senft, ala El Diablo.
Looking down on a pretty waterfall.
Lots of love for Nairo Quintana.
Small lake/pond at the base of the dam for Lac de Grand Maison. Bright sun too.
Hello from yet another set of switchbacks on Glandon.
Looking up Le Plan du Suet Chalets. The Glandon pass is slightly to the left, Croix de Fer is slightly to the right.
I have no idea what this spider represents. But I saw it in many places.
Love for the Yates twins, Simon and Adam. Sheep are lurking at the top of the picture.
Now that I've climbed above it, looking back at Lac de Grand Maison.
Sheep selfie.
The final 8% ramp to Col du Glandon.
At the top!
At the top! Cropped version.
Looking northeast. Probably Col de la Madeleine.
Road construction where only one lane is free use these mini stoplights. They are the size of a small wheelbarrow. No need for expensive flaggers. (also, apparently, cyclists commonly ignore them)
Huge waterfall on a mountain across the valley. For scale, look at houses in the bottom of the valley.
Pretty view. Note the three peaks left of center; the leftmost one I'm calling "Kitty Mountain".
Kitty Mountain!
The more popular climbs have these kilometer markers. They indicate how many km to go, the grade for the next km, and your current altitude. They are really nice for pacing yourself.
Huge hotel/resort nestled into a mountain. That's a fairly inaccessible location by American standards, but in the Alps they aren't afriad of going up steep grades in the winter.
Church and Kitty Mountain.
Many tiny villages (3-4 houses) have running water like this. They are generally safe and marked as "non potable" otherwise.
Looking down on Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves from the climb to Croix de Fer.
Love for Movistar's Nairo Quintana.
Bike selfie at Croix de Fer!
On top of Croix de Fer.
Cold ham "salad" for lunch. Yum!
Fancy pork.
Fancy chocolate dinner. No idea what the sauce was, but it was tasty.
Yo.
