Road construction where only one lane is free use these mini stoplights. They are the size of a small wheelbarrow. No need for expensive flaggers. (also, apparently, cyclists commonly ignore them)

The more popular climbs have these kilometer markers. They indicate how many km to go, the grade for the next km, and your current altitude. They are really nice for pacing yourself.
Huge hotel/resort nestled into a mountain. That's a fairly inaccessible location by American standards, but in the Alps they aren't afriad of going up steep grades in the winter.
